Summoned by Carillons

The story goes that the cracking bell chimes rang across time, called upon the fleeting weather and by their eerie song built bridges from our world to the beyond.

“Summoned by Carillons” is a collaboration between artists Ásta Vilhelmina Guðmundsdóttir (ásta creative clothes) , Sarah Lú (weaving.time photography) and Gio Ju (Butoh dance discovery).

The exhibition displays clothing created from upcycled material and designed under the theme of being shaped and softened by weather,time and life.

The photographs reintroduce these clothes into the settings they were inspired by whilst moving through to solidify into earth.

Both the images and the actual physical clothings are both present in the exhibition, inviting the viewer to experience texture and story simultaneously.

Overall the work explores the tension of physical absence versus presence-the absence of a body that once was enveloped by the material,

does it influence our perception when the actual fabric is present? Does life end with the absence of the physical body or does it continue beyond ?

Á sýningunni má sjá fatnað sem er búinn til úr endurunnu efni og hannaður út frá þema um að mótast og mýkjast af veðri, tíma og lífi. Ljósmyndirnar setja þennan fatnað aftur í umhverfið sem hann var innblásinn af á meðan hann færist í átt að því að verða eitt með jörðinni. Bæði myndirnar og sjálfar flíkurnar eru til sýnis á sýningunniog bjóða áhorfandanum að upplifa áferð og sögu samtímis.

Í heild sinni kannar verkið spennuna milli líkamlegrar fjarveru og nærveru – fjarveru líkama sem efnið umlukti eitt sinn. Hefur það áhrif á skynjun okkar þegar efnið sjálft er til staðar? Lýkur lífinu þegar líkaminn er ekki lengur til staðar eða heldur það áfram handan hans?

ásta créative clothes loves to up cycle used fabrics and clothes and give them second life. As an example worn pullovers, garments, yarn, scarfs and blankets, as well as fur jackets and coats, are turned into new pieces, taken apart and put playfully together again.
